My sound doesn't seem to mess up when it rains, but my computer instantly crashes everytime. It takes about 3 seconds of rain for my PC to suddenly reboot, so if I can type AFZLLQLL (sunny weather cheat) fast enough, I'm fine. This also happens when the weather gets very hot and the heat wave effect comes on. I'm really pissed off that I can't play this game under normal conditions! Does it actually fix the problem if you install DirectX 9.0b instead of 9.0c??

You have a BUG or there is something wrong with your windows (you may be missing a file in windows or you did something wrong when you instaled drivers for windows).
the same thing happend to me then I formated my computer and now it works OK.

Thumbs up

I think that you're right about having a faulty Windows installation, because I've been having all sorts of stability problems lately, but all of my hardware is top-notch fairly new stuff. Thanks!

For those of you whose game crashes when it starts raining, do you happen to have Nforce 2 Motherboards? I, along with the last person to post both have this motherboard. Maybe there's an incompatibility with this MB. Also, I tried reinstalling Windows XP, but I'm still having all sorts of issues on my PC. I think that it could have to do with overheating.

I'm running it on a Pentium III 800, 384MB RAM and a Radeon 9600 128MB, it crashes sometimes (maybe every hour or more) but ATI's VPU recover always recovers the crash and I go on playing with no problems...
I have the same problem as Monarch, every time it rains sound messes up till the rain stops... but it's a very little problem... I have a Creative SoundBlaster Live! 1024

Angry Disabling the sound hardware acceleration helps

Hi if you suffer from the rain induced reboot then run dxdiag and go to both sound tabs then set the hardware acceleration to zero and it should stop the rain sound crash n reboot

but there are other bugs that i get too such as
1. a machine sound affect get stuck repeating until you save
2. when you are in a mission sometimes the character's voice repeats the same sentence a few times
3. i have to reboot my pc every single time to regain control of my pc after i quit the game
4. sometimes a minor glitch occurs with the girlfriends getting stuck in parts of the city or just standing there doing nothing
5. Shagging prostitutes can sometime cause the game to quit to desktop
6. game speed slows down ALOT sometimes during some gang turf wars but NOT always even though there are usually the same amount of gang members shooting at you.
7. some minor graphics errors like pink lightning and rain that looks more like silly string than rain.

In gta vice city the rain sounds and graphics worked perfectly so why not re-use that code in gta sa. in fact perhaps most of the gta vc sound programming should be re-used cos there where no serious problems with it

i can play the game now without reboots but the other bugs still annoy me

either nVidia need to write drivers that work and rockstar games need to write a patch cos that game DOES have issues with the 5200FX graphics card
despite take2 support guy emailing me telling me to empty my temp directory and defraging my hard disk drive (which i did but with no noticeable improvements)

My PC Specs =
WinXP Pro SP2
AMD Athlon XP 2600+
Biostar n7ncd nforce2 mainboard
1024MB PC3200 DDR RAM (Generic)
120GB HD
8x Emprex DVD-R/-RW / +R/+RW
12x Relysis DVD-ROM
Creative Blaster nVidia 5200FX 128MB Graphics Card with latest drivers

Thumbs up nForce Audio Drivers

I had the same problem - rebooting PC - especially when entering leaving buildings cars and during rain.

Also have an Nforce2 MB integrated audio and nVidia6800 gfx card

Eventually "fixed" it all by disabling all audio acceleration - with acceleration turned off everything ran fine - no crashes no reboots.

If that does not work for you then try removing the nForce sound driver and installing the Realtek AC97 drivers. That will also fix it.

My guess is an incompatibility with the nForce audio driver - esp. w/ accel enabled.

Now everything works while playing EXCEPT dance sequences.. If I try to start a dance dance sequence and the game dies with an error box - which is a problem for one of the OG missions... cannot get any farther than that...

Anyone else have this issue?

Okay, guys... my GTASA installation was previously more glitchy than many of yours, but my primary problem was rain-induced PC crashing. For those of you that 1) have an nforce 'Mothership' (aka motherboard) with onboard audio and 2) are experiencing issues with rain, then it will likely fix your problems to update your audio driver to version 4.57!!! I finally tried this, and my game now runs as smooth as Vice City use to.

Download your Nforce audio driver by clicking this link: http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_audio_4.57_win2kxp

Good luck!

no i had the nvidia drivers v4.57 it still crashed... disabling the hardware accelleration only works for me but it still has loadsa bugs as i described earlier

i now use realtek drivers but i still have the same sound issues but the game is playable.

Rockstar & nVidia really need to work together and fix the sound issues. Also rockstar need to fix the quit to desktop problem i got where i HAVE to reboot my pc EVERYTIME i quit GTA SA in order to use it for other purposes cos when i quit the game AND ONLY THIS GAME my pc locks up and becomes non responsive until i reboot... It has REALLY become annoying
