you need to download a dissassembler, and dissassemble the EXE file..
find the error message and go from there..

and you should only have to patch one CMP or jmp if there even is a GetDriveTypeA check.
and CMP is just an Opcode to compare a value with another. its used to test results of API and other segments of code.
GetDriveTypeA is an API.

Because of all the great links, I now know a good amount about cracking. I've even released my fist crack (GunMetal_v1.06.1.1_NoCD_by_Tim.rar on megagames.com).
But just a question, how come some apps eg: GunMetal, don't work on any debuggers (I haven't tried on SoftIce or any debuggers on that level as it crashes my comp)? They just freeze the debugger...

anyone else having troubles with hiew not letting you save? Any help?

Try using A.X.E instead of Hiew. Much better...

help! win32dasm will not open Juiced 1.1 exe
it stops at approximately 10% (6Lines...)
but other thing like Juiceduninstall.exe works fine

For some reason win32dasm just wont open some files. Sometimes it dosn't like the folder names or lenths. Try putting it in a different folder or using a different disassembler. (eg, Ollydebug or IdaPro << also debuggers...)

I don't understand why people still use W32Dasm. Try taking a look at PEBrowsePro from Smidgeonsoft. PEBrowsePro is free as in beer and in my opinion a much better disassembler than W32Dasm.

I don't know of any, but it shouldn't be hard to take the principles from the W32Dasm tutorials and use them in PEBrowsePro.

In my opinion, learning how to crack shouldn't involve any specific tools or how to use them. Cracking is, reverse engineering (understanding) a protection and eliminating it. To do that you need to know of machine architecture and assembly. It also helps to know the internals of Windows and tricks commonly used in protections, but once you know how to reverse engineer, it is easy to learn how to use a new tool.

i tryed to make a crack for Driver 1 and didnt work....can any1 try to do it for me?? =D thnx

Well us over in the Star Wars battlefront 2 Forum thread have been waiting for a crack. Daemon tools or Alcohol 120 doesn't seem to work as well as Antiblah and stuff like that. Im going to try this thread and see if i can make my own, but i would appreciate it if someone who knew what they were doing would also try to make a crack for this game. It would make tons of SWBF2 thread reader's very happy lol

W32Dasm wont work if the exes are protected with exe protectors like Aspack, Asprotect..or any other Exe packer/protectors. Try a scan of the exe file with "PEiD", PEid analyses the exe and displays the protector (if any). So that you can use the particular unpacker and unpack the file and then Disassemble it with W32Dasm. For unpacking use "Quick Unpack", it works great !
